Alumni Matches 20021st XV: Alumni 20 Students 10 For the first time since 1998 the trophy is back in the hands of the Alumni. In what was a terrific encounter the Alumni pack, who recycled the ball endlessly proved to be the basis of the eventual win. The Alumni went in at half time 15-0 up, but 2 quick tries by the students in the second half meant that the match was on a knife-edge until the final Alumni try sealed the victory. Ian Gurney gratefully accepted the trophy as the Alumni winning captain, whilst Mick Helm made his ump-teenth appearance in an Alumni shirt. For the students, we wish them well in the coming season, and for the Alumni trophy there's always next year! 2nd XV: Alumni 0 Woodforde 43 The Alumni 2nd XV this year played against a touring side from Salisbury. A rather disappointing turn-out of players from the Alumni meant that only 9 good men and true of Nottingham started. However supplemented by players from the Woodforde Bench we managed to (almost) put a full side out. The match was rather closer than the scoreline suggests but Woodforde were worthy winners. They than also proved there prowess in the Bar and Ballroom. WE thank them for there efforts and hope to see them again soon. Notes: In order to allow easy planning the decision was taken a few years ago to link the weekend to the date of Remembrance Sunday. So for the year 2003 the Alumni match will take place at Moderns RFC on Saturday 8th November 2003. The Annual Dinner will take place at the traditional venue of The George Hotel (now known as Quality Hotel George, Nottingham) at the traditional time of 1900 for 1930hrs. |
