Alumni Letter 2002

12/10/02

 Dear All,

Alumni Weekend Nov9th & Nov 10th 2002

Apologies for the late communication this year but at last everything is organised all you have to do is let me know, turn up, and play.  There have been a few organisational problems this year as I have been unable to get the students to contact me; but finally last week (after three months of trying), I have got word that there is still a Medical School in Nottingham and more importantly still a Medics Rugby Club. Unfortunately having made contact, it was brought to my attention that whilst last year everyone was keen to play the games on the Saturday, this year they have a Cup game on the Saturday so want to play on the Sunday. Consequently there have been a few last minute amendments to the otherwise seamless plans!

The format for the weekend this year is essentially the same, but we hope to be able to play Rugby on both the Saturday & the Sunday. As usual the games will be held at Moderns RUFC.

On Saturday 9th November we are playing host to a touring side from Salisbury (The Wheatsheaf) who last toured ten years ago. They are keen to re-play the original team from that last tour, and are bringing as many of their original side as possible. (Those of you from around 1988-1993 may remember it all too well, but please try & make it back this year!) This will essentially be the 2nd XV game this year so as usual we would all be glad of support, and if nothing else it’s a valid excuse to get a few looseners into the system in preparation for the Ball. I suspect that we will not be able to field the original 1992 team against them, so anyone from any year keen to play please let me know. The kick off for the Saturday game will be at 11:30. As Moderns will require the pitches in the afternoon it cannot be any later so I would ask you all to turn up promptly at 11:00 so that we can finalise the side in good time.

The dinner will as usual be held at The George Hotel in Hockley. It is a black tie event; partners always welcome, (in fact positively encouraged) and will be starting at 19:00 for 19:30 sit down. Tickets this year are still £30 per person. Cheques payable to NMRUFC (Old Boys Account) and sent to me at the above address. The George are insisting on FINAL NUMBERS by the 31st of October so whilst in previous years I have been able to adjust the numbers in the last week, if you leave it late to let me know I will not be able to get you a meal. Please reply ASAP, if last year is anything to go by I will be booking the meal for eight people, as the other eighty left it until the last minute.

On the Sunday we will then be playing the current Student side, which once again will be at Moderns RUFC with the kick off at 12:30. My only concern about having to split the games is that some of you will come Saturday & some on Sunday and neither team will be particularly well supported. Please try & make it to the whole of the weekend if you are going to be in Nottingham as the future success of the event depends upon all of our support.

If you are available to play please complete the enclosed form or drop me an  e-mail via the web site. A copy of this letter and the reply slip can also be downloaded from the web site, also available on the site are maps of Nottingham with the venue for both the games and the dinner, as well information on nearby hotels. If you have any problems negotiating the site you can contact me direct via chrisdalton@doctors.org.uk or via more conventional means on the telephone numbers given below.

Finally in order to cut down on postage costs we hope to communicate with all of you via The Net, this also makes it easier to stay in touch as I am sure most of these letters are forwarded at least once if not more prior to you receiving them.  I have changed address 6 times since 1994 yet apparently only four of the 120 other members have moved house since the club was started! In order to achieve this could you send me an e-mail at chrisdalton@doctors.org.uk so that I can create an address book from these and then all future correspondence will be sent via e-mail.

I look forward to seeing you all in November,

Yours Faithfully
